Soul-crushing grief placed young Pervez Alvi on a path that would lead to his life’s work. “My father had a heart problem and died at a very young age. That left all of us in shock. I decided I should become a doctor to help people like my father.” And following the example of a role model, a medical school professor, Dr. Alvi fully realized the dream that would have made his father proud. “I had the opportunity to work with the professor for a few months after graduation and observe how he interacted with patients and conducted his practice.
